I did my best to record the questions as they were asked and some of the key points of the responses ...
Can you confirm the dates for submission of the TAs? (30th June)
Do schools have to submit their data before they are moderated? (No)
When will LAs tell schools that they are to be moderated? (from 20th May)
Will teachers have to have made their assessment decisions before the moderation visit? (sort of)
How will the moderation process work now the dates have changed? (Like last year)
What evidence do I need to have of independent writing? (can be self edited after peer/ teacher review and general advice, no heavy scaffolding but supporting tools eg dictionaries fine)
Is it true I need to provide evidence against about 200 hundred statements? (Revising guidance around framework, waffle, fudge, you know your children so “you will have developed an understanding of whether they are WT/WA/WGD” (!))
Will any schools have to take tests early? (no)
Why is DfE changing how progress is measured in accountability measures? (long answer)
How are changes to primary accountability being communicated to schools?
I have children who have a diagnosis of dyslexia but not a statement – should I make an application for extra time?
I have a year 6 pupil who has just broken her arm. What do we need to do re access arrangements? (Get her used to using a scribe and follow normal procedure)
Can children with SEN use manipulatives during maths tests? (No)
If students cannot meet spelling statements because of a Specific Learning Difficulty, can they still reach the Standard for Writing? (No)
I have a child who isn’t going to meet WT; should they sit the test? (If they are unable to do the test, they need to be assessed on the pre-KS2 standards)
Can a pupil be assessed with a mixture of PreKS2 and P scales? (Yes)
In arithmetic, if they use a non-approved method, will they be penalised? (If they get it right, no. If they get it wrong, they will only get method marks if they’ve used an approved method)
Can you explain how the new floor standard works? (long answer)
When is the Department going to provide clarification re expected progress? (long answer, after the tests)
How will the LAs moderate writing – will it be before submission? (As last year, yes)
The exemplification made clear that work was planned and drafted over several sessions implying that the teacher was not supporting pupils to improve during this time – is this an intended consequence of the framework? (repeat conversation about independence)
Can you explain how progress from KS1-2 will be calculated? (long explanation - it’s on the website somewhere)
What is happening with the current SPaG tests? Are they part of the floor standards? (Will be published but aren’t part of floor standards)
How come exemplars show WA needs to be more 5c than the 4b which we were told would be the standard? (Morgan is 4b – threshold; Leigh is nearly into WGD – showing range of WA band)
How will HA children be recognised in the tests? (by getting a higher scaled score)
How many times do pupils need to evidence the statements to meet the standards? (more than once, use your PJ)
Do I need separate evidence for preceding statements? (No)
What information will the Department be producing for performance measures and Raise online?
What is the difference between the floor standard and the coasting school standard? (V long response. Some explanation, we’ll publish response to the consultation sometime)
Can pupils use a word processor? If so, can I ignore the handwriting statements? (if they want WGD, there has to be some handwriting)
Is arithmetic just testing ?addition, multiplication, subtraction, division, fractions (sorry I couldn’t write fast enough to get that down)
Do EAL new arrivals need to be marked as ‘below’ if they can’t access the reading?
In theory, a child might not be able to divide and so not meet the standard but score well enough in the test to make 100 in the scaled score. (?) (Yep, that’s because tests and TAs work differently)
Dow we have to report test results to parents as well as TAs? (Yes)
What is the difference between tests and TAs? Why do we have TAs? (How long have you got?)
Can you explain how the standard for a scaled score of 100 will be set? (yes, lengthy explanation)
Can you clarify what you mean by ‘some’ and ‘most’? (There will be clarification in the new document)
Now that moderators won’t be looking at submitted data, what can we expect from the moderation process? (Like last year)
How long does a piece of work need to be to be counted as quality evidence? (It depends)
Will you be publishing and more sample KS2 papers before May? (No)
Why does the TA framework not include all the maths topics?
What is meant by compensatory marks for spelling and who is eligible? (It’s for children with a hearing impairment who can’t take dictation)
Do schools have to submit their data before they are moderated? (No)
